Admissions representatives work with students who are exploring a transfer mid-year or at the beginning of a new academic year in the fall. Transfer students can find success on either timeline. Contact an admissions representative at the college of your interest for support through the process.

One of the best ways to know if a college feels like a fit is to make a campus visit. To make sure you are getting the most out of your experience, take the extra step and visit with a professor in your academic program of interest, eat on campus, talk to other college students and attend a class or activity.

Speak with your advisor about transferring if you haven’t already. Not only will they be able to help you work through the issues you are experiencing at your current college, they’ll be able to advise you on the process of working with the registrar, admissions and financial aid offices at your school.

Determine how the credits you’ve already earned will transfer and support your degree plan. Use the colleges’ equivalency calculators found in the transfer resources below to get a general idea of how credits will transfer, and then work with an admissions representative to request a full transcript evaluation from the college you are interested in attending. Once you decide on a transfer destination, that college will provide an official evaluation of your credits with official transcripts to finalize the process.

Research the costs and look into financial aid options at your transfer college. Contact the financial aid office there to see if your current aid will transfer and whether they have scholarships available. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to help pay for the costs of college. If you’ve already submitted your FAFSA, update it with your transfer school, once you’ve finalized your decision.
