Pre-college tests like the college entrance exams (ACT or SAT) can help you get into college, earn scholarships and get a better sense of your academic strengths.

ACT to Replace Junior State Assessment in SD

Beginning in Spring 2026, South Dakota public schools will transition from the current state assessment for 11th graders to the ACT®. With this change, the ACT® will be used to measure high schools’ Student Performance Indicator on the Accountability Report Cards. This change is designed to provide more meaningful testing for students and families while supporting college and career planning.
