April is a time for growth. Let's plant the seeds and explore what grows in the soil. Spring Little Explorers is a combination of our beloved Little Explorers Nature Preschool and the Itty Bitty Einsteins class model. Classes are geared toward explorers between the ages of 3-5 and their families. Explore the science of nature and the nature of science through hands-on experiences and STEM journals together. Fees: $4 + general admission per family group. Free with membership. Must pay at the front desk for the day class.

Wake Up the Beds

Event Description

Help the South Dakota Discovery Center prep its garden beds for the growing season! We ask that participants register by Monday, April 27, through this calendar event. We also suggest wearing heavy-soled shoes and your own gardening gloves. The length of the project depends on the number of participants, so this event could end before 1pm. Volunteers under the age of 12 must have an adult helper that comes with them. In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed. Staff will communicate rescheduling information via email to event registrants.

This session will equip you with the knowledge and abilities to take the photos that will help researchers determine if your milkweed is Common, Showy or a hybrid. Please have an iNaturalist account already set up.

Bees are back in the SDDC's Observation Hive, and are ready to show you what they've been up to! Watch the unveiling of our brand-new Observation Hive, which houses a gentle bee species. Join in on the fun by exploring the rest of the bug-related exhibitions and getting hands-on with activities led by STEM Educators! Thank you to the South Dakota Agricultural Foundation for sponsoring SDDC's new Observation Hive. Thank you to the Pierre-Ft. Pierre Rotary Club for sponsoring free admission to the SDDC exhibit hall.
