South Dakota American Legion Boys State

Intended Audience High school Jr and Sr boys

Event Description

SD American Legion Boys State is a premier program for teaching how government works while developing leadership skills and an appreciation for your rights as a citizen. Students create a fictitious state starting at the City level, then continue to the County level and onward to a State level, culminating with the election of a Boys State Governor. Along the way, students will hear from South Dakota elected officials. They will participate in law enforcement classes from the Highway Patrol, Legal classes from members of the SD Bar Association, run for elections at every level of State government, partake in Party Caucuses, and argue Supreme Court cases at the Brown County Courthouse under the direction of a former SD Supreme Court Chief Justice. Event Description

The 7TH GEN.® Summer Program is a unique 8-week summer semester where High School seniors jumpstart their post-secondary journeys with 12 tuition-free college credits through our partnership with Black Hills State University and gain valuable work experience through a paid internship at Crazy Horse Memorial. They also experience fun field trips to sites in the surrounding Black Hills area and participate in hands-on cultural workshops. Our academic advisors assist each student with their post-secondary planning i.e. FAFSA, scholarship hunting, housing application, class registration, etc. Interested students may access more information and the online application through our website link.

Our residential camp is open to anyone interested in agriculture, cooperatives, Farmers Union, and leadership—no farming background required. All you need is curiosity about South Dakota’s leading industry.

Program highlights include:

  • A week-long overnight camp

  • Making friends from across the state

  • Learning from agriculture leaders

  • Tours of agricultural and cooperative facilities

  • Exploring cooperative principles

  • Plenty of fun activities

Campers can earn achievement trips and leadership awards through continued participation.

Transportation is includedwith multiple bus routes and convenient pick-up locations across the state.

The USD Business Immersion Bootcamp is an engaging, one-day event hosted at the University of South Dakota’s Sioux Falls campus. Students and their families will also have the opportunity to connect with the campus community during a shared dinner (with Beacom sponsored food trucks) from 6:00–7:00 p.m.
