Degree Pathways
Choose dual enrollment courses with your future in mind.
Degree Pathways recommend dual enrollment courses based on your academic interests and future goals. Whether you already have a career in mind or are still exploring your options, they can help you choose courses that support your plans after high school.
BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A COURSE
A little planning can help you choose courses that fit your goals.
Ask yourself:
- What am I interested in?
- Where might I go to college?
- Are there general education courses I’ll need?
- Will this course fit my future plans?
- Will it count toward high school graduation?
Still exploring? That’s okay. College Foundations is a great place to start.
FIND THE RIGHT STARTING POINT
You don’t need to explore every pathway. Choose the starting point that fits you best.
COLLEGE FOUNDATIONS
A flexible starting point for students who are still exploring.
Start with general education courses that commonly apply toward many degree programs, transfer well, and help keep your options open while you explore different majors.
EXPLORE CAREER-FOCUSED PATHWAYS
Already have a field or career in mind?
Choose a pathway that includes a combination of general education and discipline-specific coursework connected to your interests.
Degree Pathways are planning tools—not prescribed course sequences.

AN ADDED OPPORTUNITY: GATEWAY CERTIFICATES
As you explore Degree Pathways, some recommended courses may also help you earn a South Dakota Board of Regents Gateway Certificate.
Gateway Certificates are undergraduate credentials that recognize progress in a focused area of study. They can help you explore a career field, earn meaningful college credit and continue building toward future college credentials.
HOW IT WORKS
You don’t need to declare a Gateway Certificate before you begin. As you complete qualifying coursework, the South Dakota Board of Regents will let you know when you may be eligible to apply. Once awarded, the certificate is added to your official college transcript.
KEEP BUILDING
Gateway Certificates are designed to be stackable, so the credits you earn can continue building toward associate and bachelor’s degrees.
