Applied General Mathematics (MATH 100)

This course, taught at technical colleges, will provide emphasis on the ability to understand and apply math skills to solve problems in the world of work.

MATH 100 is called Applied Mathematics at most technical college campuses in South Dakota but could be referred to as Math Applications or Applied Math, depending on the campus.

If MATH 100 is successfully completed as the High School Dual Credit equivalent, there is no need to take again in college.

Intermediate Mathematics (MATH 101)

This course, taught at technical colleges, will enhance students’ problem-solving skills and prepare them for mathematical problems to be faced in future courses and careers.

MATH 101 is called Intermediate Algebra or Introductory Algebra, depending on the campus.

If MATH 101 is successfully completed as the High School Dual Credit equivalent, there is no need to take again in college.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND FOR TECHNICAL COLLEGE MATH PATHWAYS

  • MATH 100 is called Applied Mathematics at most technical college campuses in South Dakota but could be referred to as Math Applications or Applied Math, depending on the campus.
  • MATH 101 is called Intermediate Algebra or Introductory Algebra, depending on the campus.
  • Math Reasoning (MATH 103) and College Algebra (MATH 114) will transfer between public universities and technical colleges. Check with technical college representatives for transferability of other university-level math courses.
  • Direct placement into college math courses includes other factors in addition to preparatory coursework, such as student GPA or math index score.
