ACT & Pre-College Testing

Pre-college tests like the college entrance exams (ACT or SAT) can help you get into college, earn scholarships and get a better sense of your academic strengths.

What are Pre-College Tests and Why Take Them?

There are various tests that may need to be taken depending on the college and/or career path you choose. Scores from these tests can support your admission into a college, place you in courses that match your skills and make you eligible for scholarship opportunities. A great place to start is by taking the ACT because many scholarships require it! Generally, options for pre-college testing start in 10th grade.

How Will I Know Which Pre-College Tests to Take?

Talk to your school representative about tests you should take, and visit with college admissions representatives for direction on specific tests required for acceptance into your college and/or academic program of interest.

ACT TEST ENHANCEMENTS

Beginning in April 2025, students who choose to take the ACT online will see an updated format that is shorter and lets them choose whether to include the science section. These changes will also apply to the paper-pencil test starting in September 2025.

The Composite Score will now focus on English, math, and reading, while science scores will be reported separately for those who take it. These updates ensure colleges can continue making informed admission and scholarship decisions, making results even more relevant as students take the next steps toward higher education.
