Supporting FAFSA® Completion

Students who complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are statistically more likely to apply to attend and graduate from college, but millions of dollars are “left on the table” each year because students do not complete it. Educators are in the perfect position to support and encourage their students to complete the FAFSA.

2026-27 FAFSA available October 1!

Students can prepare to complete the FAFSA by establishing their FSA ID. The FSA ID is a username and password for their account at StudentAid.gov. Any questions about completing the FAFSA or obtaining a FSA ID can be directed to Mapping Your Future at feedback@mappingyourfuture.org or 1-800-374-4072.

SD FAFSA COMPLETION PORTAL

A FAFSA database that provides authorized high school personnel with student-level FAFSA data.

The South Dakota FAFSA Completion Portal is a powerful tool designed to help schools, districts, and educators ensure that every student has the resources they need to pursue higher education. The FAFSA Completion Portal provides school representatives in participating school districts information about the FAFSA completion status of their high school seniors. Portal members see the FAFSA completion status of their enrolled seniors – either “Complete,” “Not Filed,” or “Incomplete”. This information helps you prioritize who you can support in securing financial aid.

Why Participate?

The SD FAFSA Completion Portal provides authorized school personnel access to FAFSA completion information for their graduating seniors. This insight helps educators identify which students have completed the FAFSA and who may need additional assistance—removing guesswork and enabling targeted support.
