Prior Learning & Validated Credit
Starting college is exciting, but what if you could skip ahead and save time, money, and effort by using what you already know? Prior Learning Assessment and Validated Credit are two ways to earn credit for learning you’ve already done before setting foot in a college classroom.
The South Dakota Prior Learning & Validated Credit Dashboard is an online resource developed by the South Dakota Board of Regents that helps students understand how their prior learning experiences—like AP courses, military service, and industry certifications—can be translated into college credit at public universities across the state.
Use it to your advantage
Prior learning and validated credit can be extremely valuable for an incoming college student. Here’s how to use it to your advantage:
Select Exam Provider & Find Course Equivalent
Find your prior learning or validated credit opportunities by selecting the Standardized Exams, Industry Certifications, or Military Service tabs below. Once selected, you will find the course equivalents recognized at South Dakota public universities. This tells you what college credits you will receive when you provide your official transcripts, test scores, or certifications to the public university you plan to attend.
