Mathematical Reasoning (MATH 103)

In this course, students will work with authentic problems to develop logical, critical thinking, and mathematical skills. The student will build a cultural appreciation for the relevant and meaningful role that mathematics plays in many areas of life. Topics may include: finance, introduction to probability and statistics, and linear and exponential models, among others.

If MATH 103 is successfully completed as the High School Dual Credit equivalent, there is no need to take again in college.

College Algebra (MATH 114) and higher will satisfy these degree requirements as well.

College Algebra (MATH 114)

This course includes a study of the theory and application of functions including function notation, graphs, inverses, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and other functions. May also include additional topics such as sequences, series, the binomial theorem, linear systems, matrices, or complex numbers.

If MATH 114 is successfully completed as the High School Dual Credit equivalent, there is no need to take again in college.

Survey of Calculus (MATH 121) and higher will satisfy these degree requirements as well.

Things to keep in mind for university general math pathways

Taking a college math course more advanced than the one outlined in the degree requirements will also satisfy the degree requirements. For instance, if MATH 103 is shown as the minimum requirement, MATH 114, Calculus 121, or Calculus 123 will also fulfill the requirement.
Math Reasoning (MATH 103) and College Algebra (MATH 114) will transfer between public universities and technical colleges. Check with technical college representatives for transferability of other university-level math courses.
Direct placement into college math courses includes other factors in addition to preparatory coursework, such as student GPA or math index score.
